Whidbey Pleasures for the week ... Jan 21
For starters how about the beautiful snow in the back meadow. Absolutely gorgeous

Sunday at Double Bluff beach ... a rainy and windy, windy Double Bluff Beach ... a perfect day to watch watch kite surfers do their thing. Exhilarating indeed.

Little did I know that the beach is a prime spot for the kiters ... looking forward to watching them more throughout the year.
Another hot item(s) are the various coffee shops ... had a great get-together with the neighborhood at Mukilteo Coffee Roasters down the road on Saturday afternoon. To think its is a short walk out our front door and down the road to a hot cup of Joe!
Making the list this week ... quiet ... dark ... stillness ... the sounds of the woods ... birds, and more birds ... the gathering place.

... been awhile
Ok so its been awhile since I've been here.
Much has happened in the past year and 2 months.
The latest being the move to Whidbey Island, which is one of the reasons for getting back to the blog.
We had our reasons to move to Langley and new what we were getting into, based on our 28 years of visiting the island.
It is the unexpected pleasures that keep showing up that is the suprise ... so many that I need to keep track of them.
So here goes.

They have changed but they have not.

Riss, Ty and Caitie ... I love where they are at now, as far as how the relate to each other, what interests their lives are filled with, what they cherish.
Looking at them through my lense this past weekend I could not help but clock back on the focus, and through the slight blurriness remember them when they were 3,7 and 10.
They have changed but they have not.
I like that.

OK ... now to tag ... my thousands of family history photos
I know a bunch about tagging and meta data ... but actually sitting down and applying this stuff to my huge content base is "scary". Don't want to get 3 thousand photos into it and say ... "... you know I should have done it that other way."
Plus some one else will be using the tags, not me.
A little research is needed ... for starters:
A cognitive analysis of tagging
The Present Failure of Tagging

Trip to Moscow ...
Nice time in Moscow this past weekend ... haven't been there in some time in this way.
Big city to college town
Where I am now to where I was then
Going back to see family
Remembering stories old and new
Exciting and funny
Sad and tragic
In many ways unknown
But known by me
People of generations back
Coming to life again
Some for the first time
To me
Paul I found you again
In your writing
A cup o'tay Paully me lad?
Go down to the Garden for a pint?
Then back to home
After some time spent
Home to C
Home to R, T and CJB
Presents in hand for them
Treasures in hand for me

"Turning 50 ...."
Thinking back on the great weekend I had with my buddies Tom, Steve,Mark,Kim and Dave three weekends back on Case Inlet ... nice time, nice friends, nice tunes, nice cigars, nice campfire, nice beach, nice music, nice food, nice scenery.
Thanks Mark for hosting at your place. Thanks all for the great cycling jersey ... looks great and my wife loves it. My goal is to still fit into it when I turn 70!

Steve's lyrics to the "Turning 5" song summed up the time ...
"And I have friends who care about me
They're the best I've ever had
And they always stand beside me whenever times go bad
And I love to take those photographs
I love the story's that they tell
I'll be showing them and telling tales
Until I hear the final bell
Turning 50"

Appreciate your friendship

St Louis ... and the other side of the U.S.

Being in St. Louis reminds me how big the U. S. is ... very different from the Puget Sound.
The sounds, pace of life, views are all different. And then there is the Mississippi ... the mighty river.
